A Classic Handbag a Thing of Beauty : and a worthwhile investment.

Classic Handbag

I love a classic handbag. To me a handbag has an air of mystery. I remember as a child the beautiful patent leather handbag my Great Aunt carried. Auntie Maud is a fashion icon to me and her handbags were the pinnacle of beauty. The mystery was the contents of the handbag, a mint given as a bribe for quietness, a lace trimmed handkerchief used to wipe a tear or a mess from my mouth, the birthday envelope with a pristine ten dollar bill. All this has given the handbag a mythical status for me. We all have our own reasons for loving fashion and our own stories are what bring fashion to life. No fashion piece has more longevity or is more cherished than the classic handbag.

In life there are very few things that will make a fashionista gasp with total awe, more than a classic handbag. Nothing says luxury more than the feel, and impeccable workmanship of an iconic designer handbag. These bags are the hallmark of taste, refinement and style. All  luxury brands produce designer bags and choosing one can be difficult. Although these bags come with hefty price tags, they also represent an investment. To be a woman of style you must have at least one classic handbag in your wardrobe.

A Classic Handbag Is an Investment

Perhaps you already own several classic handbags or maybe you're just entering the market but the word here is investment. There is no time like the present to invest in a classic handbag ! If you choose carefully, by this I mean something you love, and show your bag tender loving care, you can profit from your investment many times over. There are many vendors who specialize in reselling investment handbags. Many of the bags they sell are vintage or hard to find bags. Keeping your bag pristine will increase its value and longevity.

Things to Consider when Purchasing a Classic Handbag

Many articles and posts have been written on this subject and I add my voice to the conversation, having done my research. I don't think that classic has to be boring and you should always express your own style. In choosing a bag think of versatility, style and craftmanship. The versatility of a bag really comes down to color and style.

When it comes to color I tend to recommend nude ,grey, brown or black. Neutral handbags can complement so many different styles, pieces and personalities. However a bag can also be a statement piece. In this category you might love pastels or a strong bold statement like red or yellow.

When considering style I recommend a bag with more structure. It will keep its shape better and stand up to daily use. Try to avoid any bags with large logo's, lean towards a reputable brand that doesn't scream its place of purchase. Subtlety will ensure your bag remains classic. Consider the amount of hardware on the bag , although these bags can be eye-catching they can also be high maintenance. Bags with lots of chains and studs are flashy but have a lot of elements to go amiss.

Whatever your taste craftmanship is essential. Make sure your bag is leather, steer away from trendy fabric inserts ,faux fur or baubles. Buying a well-known brand will help if your bag requires any repairs . In conclusion keep your bag clean ,store it in the dust bag and never leave in on the floor. Remember your classic handbag is an investment therefore treat it that way.

A Classic Handbag Brand you may not know

Those of you who follow my blog know I always try and introduce you to a new designer, brand or look. While keeping with this tradition I have come across a company/brand that makes beautifully designed and crafted handbags. The brand is Meli Melo and was started in 2005 by Sicilian born Melissa Del Bono. Finding inspiration in the large wicker baskets the women would carry on the volcanic Aeolian island of Lipari , Sicily , where she grew up. Therefore to adapt a longer story, eventually after sourcing the finest leathers and craftsmen Meli Milo was born . Without extortionate price tags and harsh branding Meli Melo has become a brand sought out by A-List celebrities and industry insiders . Each and every bag  continues to be made in Italy and Melissa goes to great lengths to ensure  the finest leathers and materials are used by her team.
