SPOTLIGHT ON SIMONE ROCHA

First and foremost I've chosen to spotlight Simone Rocha. Hello darlings it's time for my third installment of my favorite designers for this year. In fact in writing this post I realized that two of  designers I have chosen are female. While this may say more about me . I feel that women are taking a more important role in the design world .Therefore the first post was on  PROENZA SCHOULER and the second the other female designer Stacey Bendet for her amzaing brand ALICE+ OLIVIA . Incidentally it has been stressed here in Canada by our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, that men can be and are feminists .I am one of those men, and feel it important to judge everyone by the same measures. While I strie to promote women whenever possible. Therefore I'm thrilled to highlight designer Simone Rocha.

SIMONE ROCHA HER BIO.

Simone Rocha was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1986. In 2008 she graduated with a BA in Fashion from The National College of Art and Design in Dublin . Continuing in 2010 to graduate from the acclaimed Fashion MA at Central Saint Martin’s College, London. Simone debuted at London Fashion Week in September 2010.

Simone Rocha has evolved into an internationally renowned and award-winning brand. In the past, accolades have included British Fashion Awards for ‘Emerging Talent, Ready-to-Wear’ (2013) and ‘The New Establishment Award’ (2014). Most recently at the 2016 Fashion Awards Simone received the “British Womenswear Designer Award” as well as the 2016 Harper’s Bazaar Designer of Year Award.

In February 2017 Simone opened her first USA store in Soho, New York.

THE COLLECTION S/S 2017

Since I have been writing this blog darlings I have always tried to bring you exciting  fashion. Above all else when  it comes to fashion creativity is first and foremost. Therefore I often show you collections with the desire to promote the designer. For this reson I have chosen Simone Rocha.

THE DRESSES

As though we were plucked from our life and placed down in Irish farm at an undetermined time . This romantic collection unfolds a little like a Catholic girls clothing anthology. Lace dresses are presented like a twisted take on baptismal gowns, communion dresses and wedding frocks.

Inspired by a recent exhibition in Ireland that featured photographs by Jackie Nickerson of farm girls. Placed alongside paintings, one of them entitled “The Catholic Girls” by the Irish artist William John Leech, Simone Rocha worked her signature plays on volume into a collection that was both ethereal — and earthy.

She created her own broderie anglaise — in white or black — working it into dresses with puffed shoulders.  Chunky knots. on the sleeves; tops that were patch-worked with lace; or a girlish collars. By the same token long, dark glen plaid check dresses.

THE DETAILS MAKE  THE DRESSES

Rocha also worked miles of sheer silk organza and tulle into long gossamer dresses . Accordingly they were adorned with embroidered flowers. Some had drooping hems, and looked as if they were torn.

Workaday elements provided a cool contrast. There were long and slim red gingham dresses in the mix and sheer plastic coats, both of which were adorned with small flowers or broderie anglaise. Tall boots had a sturdy, no-nonsense look and were finished with plain or colored Perspex heels, another Rocha signature. At the same time there were maroon patterned dresses and black dresses with florals.

I loved this romantic collection  and hope you do as well .
