Fausto Puglisi is my choice designer for this month. Since I started this series on my favorite collections for S/S17 I have received great feedback. Therefore as I continue with this series I'm excited to introduce designers you may not be familiar with. It's through these posts that you'll really get to know and trust me as an advisor .I know darlings you may think that this sounds like boasting. But I'm no kid and I've studied this stuff for a long time. Above all else I love writing this blog . Therefore lets move on.
FAUSTO PUGLISI A BRIEF BIO
Puglisi’s work is a study in bold contrasts and reflects his Italian origins .Paradoxically it also reflects his fascination with all facets of American culture .Incidentally it appears that I have a real soft spot for Sicilian men as my partner is of Sicilian descent. Fausto Puglisi was born in Messina, Sicily to two school teachers, Puglisi was soon entranced by the twin fashion sources in his small home town. First the traditional tailors who carefully made his grandfathers’ suits by hand. Second the local boutiques. brimming with stars from the Italian 1980s ready-to-wear scene. Therefore this is where he spent most of his teenage afternoons. Seeking new horizons, Puglisi moved to America in 1999
At this point I want to mention that Puglisi was never fulltime in America. Therefore with one foot in the new world and the other in the old, his style developed. Consequently he was influenced by Italians like Versace and Dolce and Gbabbana and the American ready to wear scene like Calvin Klein. You all know how I love Dolce and Gabbana and you can see their influence on the Puglisi runway. In other words let Fausto speak for himself when he said his fashion icon is Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface. If you're not familiar with the visuals of Scarface , have another look with the critical eye of the fashionista. No doubt the influence of American culture is omnipresent.
THE COLLECTION-S/S 2017Puglisi designed this collection to showcase his abiding obsession with his roots in Sicily and its Catholicism . Therefore he also played with the many conquests that have occurred there, and the local propensity for ostentatious dress. In my opinion this is Puglisi’s best collection in a while. Puglisi’s obsessions remain his obsessions. However he has clearly been listening to feedback from customers craving more lightness. Similarly the bird- and flower-printed fabric replaced the heavy embroideries he has favored in the past. Therefore the heavy embroidered fabrics are scaled back or replaced by prints. The starburst and cross motif is a nice elaboration of his signature crystal and metalwork. Meanwhile, the palette is lighter and more spring like. In the same way bright colors are color blocked on feminine dresses. Ultimately this is a strong Spring /Summer collection . I have chosen some great pieces that are all on sale .
FAUSTO PUGLISI IN CONCLUSION
In conclusion I have shown you another great designer. Therefore I'm really happy to have any comments that you may have about the work of Fausto Puglisi . I was excited to present this post and hope you enjoyed it.
Ciao for now Jandrew
