SPOTLIGHT ON ZIMMERMAN
Zimmerman is the last in my favorite collections for spring / summer 2017. Since today is the 1st of August the days to promote S/S2017 are over. However there is one great post left and everything is on clearance. Several of the merchants that I partner with are offering Zimmermann at great reductions . First and foremost, follow my links and shop ,shop ,shop ! Furthermore darlings I stuck to my theme for this spring and summer , and have selected another brand by women . Hence Zimmermann is an Austrailian brand started by sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann.
ZIMMERMANN A BRIEF BIO.
Australian sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann founded their label in Sydney in 1991.
Nicky Zimmerman attended the acclaimed design school at East Sydney in 1990. Upon graduation Nicky began making clothes in her parent’s garage to sell at clothes markets on the weekend.
The markets were an opportunity for Nicky to refine her aesthetic and to see first-hand how women responded to fashion. “While working the markets, I had two pages of editorial in Australian Vogue. That was a significant moment because I suddenly started to receive orders from boutiques around Australia and I could feel some real momentum. Soon after I opened a small store in Darlinghurst,” said Nicky.
It was at this time that Nicky’s sister Simone joined her, and together they formed their brand. “I could never have achieved what we have without Simone. While the business has evolved and fashion has changed, Simone has been a voice of reason and a constant.”
The Zimmerman line began as ready-to-wear, however the sisters swiftly added a swimwear component. It proved to be a commercially savvy move, the sister’s take on swimwear and elegant daywear enhanced their burgeoning profile which, decades on, shows little signs of abating.
Today, the brand has numerous directly owned and operated boutiques in Australia, as well as international flagships in Beverly Hills and New York. In addition, the label has an impressive roster of stockists, including Barney’s, Saks 5th Avenue, Bloomingdales, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, David Jones and independent boutiques around the world
ZIMMERMANN THE COLLECTION
Since I always like to be on top of what is happening my emphasis on women designers is part of that. Therefore my ideas of supporting women had me cross paths with Zimmermann. I had seen some of their clothes before but had never concentrated on one of their collections.
As a consequence, I was more than delighted when I engaged with their collection for S/S 2017. Still as interesting was the story behind this collection. Next thing is you all know how much I love fashion with a story. Actually the story resounds with the stories that many may have , suburban girls making offfits to hit the city on the weekend . I have similar tales of debauchery but I digress. Therefore the influence for this collection was these weekend girl friend fashion parties. By and large I can attest to hitting the city as a youngster when your day-to-day life in suburbia is a little lack lustre.
As a matter of fact, what appeared on the runway was fashion that did have a DIY feeling , with lace, tulle,and lots of layers. However it came to my mind that these previously mentioned girls were playing dress up in a debutantes 1950's wardrobe. On the other hand Zimmermann herself referenced a sexy pirate girl and I get it. While all this is happening, I love the patterns, lace , tulle and ruffles that make up this collection. Similarily the off the shoulder looks helped set this winning trend.
Furthermore I appreciate this brands ability to produce high quality beautiful clothing and intricate workmanship . The dresses of this collection are beautiful and sensual. Shop these pieces to add some classic romanticism to your wardrobe.
