NEW YORK FASHION WEEK- BLANCORE

My first post from NYFW is the label Blancore. Darlings, unfortunately I am not in New York City for fashion week. However, I have the next best thing, a live link to all the shows and access to photo's. Generally speaking, it is of course always best to be an ass in a chair, enjoying the environment and relating to the audience and overall experience. With this in mind I'm really excited to share my insights of the shows .

Therefore, I have decided to give an update of the shows I found most interesting of the week. While I will soon be at Vancouver Fashion Week , I have not traveled lately because of personal reasons. Although we can't really compare Vancouver Fashion Week to New York Fashion Week we can be inspired. Certainly, in reality amazing talent exists everywhere. What we need to create here in Vancouver is opportunity.

My first impression that stood out from my watching of NYFW, is the label Blancore.

BLANCORE - NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

Certainly, I was more than a little impressed with the premiere collection of Blancore at New York Fashion Week. Furthermore, my delight with Blancore has a lot to do with the incredible use of fabric. Since I always have my eyes peeled for new, refreshing and innovative design ,it was hard not to miss Blancore. In fact a young label with such sophistication and respect for textiles is a rare thing.

This Manhattan based brand is the creation of Yalan Li, Creative Director of Blancore. Yalan comes from a family that has a long history in the fashion industry, therefore design seems an obvious career choice for Li. Notwithstanding her family connections to the fashion industry in China, Yalan made a conscious decision to launch her line in the U.S. Her studies at Ohio State University and her passion for art and art history inspired Yalan to establish a brand that is truly American.
American style and minimalism are both strong themes of Blancore. The inspiration for this collection is water.

“When becoming mist and cloud, it says: you can reach me, but do not dominate me. While becoming a drop of rain or a vast ocean, it says: you can feel me, but do not define me. On  becoming snow and frost, it says: I have more forms beyond your imagination.”  Yalan Li

The Blancore website about page is like a philosophy dissertation on the brand. Therefore, I encourage you to check-out the Blancore page

BLANCORE

From time to time, I take a pause and look at the fashion world as a source of beauty in this frenzied world. Occasionally I stop and really take a moment to look at a collection with the fresh eyes of naivety. Hence putting to a side any knowledge of pattern, construction, fashion history and more to just see what is before me. This is the case with Blancore , this collection inspired me to just take in the subtle beauty of simplicity. The first word that comes to mind looking at this collection is delicate.

This delicacy comes across in both the organic pastel color palette and the simple and delicate silhouettes. In the past I have designed costumes for the ballet and elements of dance and movement are present in this collection. Yalan Li uses delicate fabrics to bring to life her vision of water. What better way to portray water than through movement. From the opening of the show, where three figures in leotards intertwined to the gauzy dresses that followed. movement is a key element of this collection.

Certainly, the arrival of Blancore on the NYFW catwalk is going to set this brand on it's way. While, this fashion brand has topped $100,000 in sales it very well positioned to hit the stratosphere. In my opinion I predict that Blancore will hit the main stage, and be there to stay for a while.

Darling's watch this spot for more great insights from New York Fashion Week.

WHAT'S HOT...

Have I mentioned that fall is either here or on it's way . Many of my childhood memories are of the back-to-school season and even though I have no kids , it still rings in ears like the recess bell. While I have no need to buy school supplies I do have the idea set in my mind that fall means a new coat. I seem a little odd but so many of my memories include what i wore. I remember how I loved shopping for new clothes for school, especially a new coat. While my brothers got the typical ski jacket, I pouted and whined until, all my fuss was rewarded with a classic duffle coat or a pea coat. While I love some trends, classic coats are what's hot. Therefore darling's here's some great deals on the best classic coats for fall.
