NYFW S/S 2022 is back with a full calendar of fashion shows. September always has a strange feeling for me. I'm sure for many of you. From a very young age, September symbolizes new beginnings. With the start of a new school year, (and later university ), September comes with great anticipation. What will the coming year hold? Something else that has new beginnings in September is fashion. The most important shows on the fashion calendar happen in September. The NYFW S/S 2022 is the start of what is coming for the following spring. We will see soon what's coming from London, Milan, and Paris.

NYFW S/S 2022 - WHAT'S GOING ON?

Certainly, anticipation is at its highest for NYFW S/S 2022. After two seasons of virtual fashion shows, the seats are set for the comeback of live fashion shows. I am not attending NYFW, however, through my network, I have a virtual front-row seat for all the shows. The calendar is full, with 91 events scheduled. Furthermore, the fabulous street style that accompanies fashion week will be in full swing. Many haven't shown their style in quite a while. NYFW S/S 2022 officially is September 8th- 12th, with some designers showing on September 7th. You can view the calendar here.

NYFW S/S 2022-WHAT WILL IT LOOK LIKE?

After 18 months, fashion industry pros, influencers, and celebrities from all over the world will come together to celebrate and explore Spring/Summer 2022 collections. Of course, darlings, there are safety precautions. First, the number of in-person seats is reduced and, all the attendees and participants will have to show proof of vaccinations. Second, audience members will be encouraged to wear masks. Make sure you wear a mask that flaunts your style.

NYFW S/S 2022 will take place all around the city with shows scheduled at the Empire State Building and for the first time Ulla Johnson will use the Brooklyn Botanical Garden for a show.

I will be using this platform to cover NYFW S/S 2022,

NYFW S/S 2022

Over the next few days I will cover all my favorites from NYFW. The first shows took place on Tuesday September 2nd prior to the official opening. The first designers to show their S/S 2022 collections that I'll cover are two favorites  COLLINA STRADA and CHRISTIAN SIRIANO, here is my take on these first collections.

NYFW S/S 2022

COLLINA STRADA

Hillary Taymour of Collina Strada chose Brooklyn Grange's rooftop garden in Sunset Park to stage her energetic return to the runway. It is 18 months since her last runway show. Tamour showed what had been growing not only in the garden but in an imaginative mind. Watching this show from a video feed made me want to be there. The runway performances of skipping, sprinting, and dancing down the catwalk had the same chaotic energy as the fashion.

The garden theme is put into the clothing with some large floral patterns, many pieces with stars. Dresses mainly worn over pants were reminiscent of playing dress-up as a child. There is playfulness in these combinations. The colors are bright, and the shapes and silhouettes are unique. Swimwear and cargo pants, as well as upscaled t-shirts, flushed out the hand-crafted fashion. A mother and daughter theme gave me the feeling of continuity and generational sustainability as if the clothes lived on beyond the current wearer. Humor, joy, and youth are all constants for the brand, and are in abundance in this delightful summer collection. Collina Strada's cult-like followers will find many pieces to celebrate.

CHRISTIAN SIRIANO

Since he won Project Runway in 2007, Christian Sirano has been on my and many other's radars. I am impressed by Sirano's work. For a young designer, I am awed by his vast knowledge and the inspirations for his collections. Christian's inspiration for his current collection is the family photo's of his Italian grandmother's trips in the '60s and 70's to Positano.

The venue for this collection is also an inspired choice. The show is in the midtown Manhattan Gotham Hall. Built in, 1924 Gotham Hall has a high, gilded ceiling and mammoth iron doors. A reflection of its jazz age heritage and the glamour and excess of its time. A perfect location for a collection that is joyful and decadent.

THE COLLECTION

The 59 piece collection ranges from tailored suits to voluminous ball gowns. In his signature saturated colors, Sirano gives us a collection with plenty of glitz and glamour. The opening look is a plus-size pumpkin-colored suit with wide-leg trousers that exudes sexiness. What follows are a series of refined suits and day dresses leading us into the collection's exuberant evening wear. This collection has a bit of everything with a marvelous tribute to designing a fabulous black dress. The only down point for this collection is that there were enough ideas for several collections. There was no focus. The lime green and orange ball gowns came from a different place than the rest.

IN CONCLUSION

The return of NYFW to the live runway represents a victory for the fashion world. However we may well regret going back to live shows time will tell.
