PREVIEW OF DAY 2 AT VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK S/S 2022, OCT 23RD

PREVIEW OF DAY 2 AT VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK

Here is my preview of day 2 at Vancouver Fashion Week (VFW). In this post I will feature Canadian designers. When I first attended VFW, I was impressed by the commitment of everyone involved. Certainly, this commitment is nowhere more evident than what comes down the runway. From the models, hair, and make-up to the lighting and music, the production values of Vancouver Fashion Week rate with the best. All of this is in service to the designers who show their work. From students to experienced designers, they all commit to showing their best.

The range and diversity of the designs shown at VFW are a true reflection of the commitment of CEO Jamal Abdourahman and his team. I, too commit to doing my best, giving you my insights and reviews that further the understanding of fashion. Therefore as we all commit to a weekend of fashion, let's take a moment to honor the commitment of all involved.

KAKA TheLabel

In my opinion, little could be more exciting than a group of young talented women forming their own fashion label. Fashion design is often a solitary act. However the idea of of working as a collective is an opportunity to share ideas and stimulate creativity. KAKA TheLabel is a brand created by 5 young women who joined forces in Vancouver in 2020. Each piece is uniquely designed and customized by the team.

The five team members of KAKA TheLabel have engaged and developed a passion for a broad range of art expressions beginning at a young age. Through art, we are embraced to break free from the chains of what is considered "right" in society and freely express our creativity. Therefore, we recognize the value of making art accessible and aiding to spark every child's inner artist.

MAISON DU MARDI

HOUSE OF TUESDAY

I am always thrilled to see the talents of young Canadians on the runway and encourage you all to support our Canadian fashion designers.  Maison Du Mardi is a Canadian label based out of Calgary Alberta.  The designer is Samantha Reichert a young designer who will show her first collection on a main stage. The inspiration for this label is the designers love of travel especially her connection to Paris.

This is Maison du Mardi’s debut collection titled “Canadiana”, showcasing twelve beautifully hand crafted women's wear pieces. The Canadiana collection was created from a range of luxurious fabrics with prints and solids inspired by the flora and fauna of Canada’s majestic landscape.

TAMAR KATE

One of the largest movements in fashion is the strides brands are making to be eco friendly and socially responsible. Accolades go out to all the slow brands who are guided by greater principles than just profits. A fashion brand that is proud of it's commitment to sustainability is Tamar Kate.  Designer TK has taken every effort to design a brand that is not only sustainable but is also socially responsible.

SS22 is a utilitarian-inspired collection that merges the relaxed West Coast lifestyle with a chic, upscale edge. The result is a line of sophisticated, seasonless, and eco-friendly clothing for the fashion conscious person.
