Berenice Jimenez comes to Vancouver Fashion Week from  Aguascalientes, Mexico. From a young child she was interested in art and design. Eventually her creativity  lead to a degree in Fashion  Design, in Clothing and Textiles at the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes. Jimenez started her eponymous brand 2017.

Her work stands out for the innovation of her designs that employ artisanal  techniques of the Aguascalientes culture, made by artisans from the region. Each  design responds to the user's personality, transmitting fluidity, elegance and  exclusivity.

BERENICE JIMENEZ - A REVIEW

Berenice Jimenez joined the ranks of designers showing evening wear this season at VFW S/S 22. I recently posted an article, 3 UNIQUE VISIONS OF EVENING WEAR. Every designer strives to present something unique, and in the often saturated evening wear market, this can be a challenge. Jimenez exceeded the challenge with her collection entitled Ineffable ( Inefable in Spanish).

Ineffable meaning, unspeakable, ethereal, transcendent, is used by the designer to tell her story of the cycles of love. The first garments down the runway are pastels. The color story evolves with a range of colors from blue, burnt red, and gold tones. A selection of silhouettes included full skirts, sleek slinky columns, and sexy flowing gowns. Intricate seaming and cuts form dresses that have movement and elegance. The first trio of dresses was delicate in a shade that is just barely peach. One has a ruffled pleated bodice, and the next is shimmering and sheer. While, the third has a voluminous skirt with exquisite lacework at the hem.

While luster and sheen are a theme throughout the collection, an ivory dress stands out for its matte finish and intricate cut. The cold shoulder dress with ruffled sleeves and thigh-high slits is unique and exciting.

The custom dresses in this collection were detailed with embroidery, beading, appliques, and feathers. Graceful off-the-shoulder dresses and others revealing with sheer fabrics seemed to offer a new vision of dressing up. A midnight blue dress stands out for its design, appearing like an intricate stained glass pattern. Two dresses in burnt red, while beautiful, seem to belong to a different collection. The runway show was completed by two translucent and ethereal gold gowns.

And in the tradition of an Haute Couture show, It ended with a magnificent wedding gown. This designer drew on the heritage and culture of Mexican craftsmanship to create an exquisitely detailed collection. The overall effect, especially when the soft peaches and golds shimmered and glistened, was of a dedication to decoration- for grand gowns, evening gowns, and wedding dresses. There are many beautiful evening gowns, making them distinctive takes skill. Berenice Jimenez has used her skill, to create a beautiful, distinctive collection.

While we are three weeks out from Vancouver Fashion Week, there are still a lot of stories to tell. My objective here is to spread the word about new and upcoming designers. WHAT'S HOT

Today my What's Hot is all about boots. Last year at this time, it was about slippers as we settled into lockdown. Well, we now have a chance to stride out in the latest boot trends from the F/W 2021 runways. Every fall, we do a deep dive into the closet to revitalize our boots and see what we're missing to stay on-trend. Of course, we have our reliable classics, but What's Hot specifically for this season. I have looked at all the runways and trend alerts to come up with the hottest boots.

Bold Knee-High Boots

The runways were full of knee high boots in many different styles and finishes. Jason Wu wowed New York fashionistas with knee boots ranging from pink pastel styles to luxury textures. While still others like Jill Sander caught onto the trend to bring back the disco days with bronze metallic boots and everything glam. For those who are more minimalist two tone boots in leather and suede were seen stomping the catwalks.

COWBOY BOOTS

The wild west was not far from the runway for the f/w 2021 season. Whether it's the influence of Little Nas X or others, there seems to be a newfound interest in the country cowboy boots. Designers like Isabel Marant, Balmain, and others sent a large variety of boots down the catwalk. Furthermore, there is a cow boot for everyone this season, YeeHaw! 

COMBAT BOOTS

If the last year has had any lesson, it's that comfort is key. Certainly, you won't find too many more comfortable options than combat boots. Designed to be durable and pragmatic these boots will last you for years to come.

This year saw a movement on the runways to celebrate the 1990's. The combat boots of the grunge era have been reborn, but with designer flare. The f/w 2021 runways had a surplus of combat boots and not all army surplus. Combat boots in an array of colors and varying designs are What's Hot! From the ultra-feminine combats from Simone Rocha to the impactful colors of Coach, combat boots are for more than muddy battles.
