The 94th Academy Awards was a noteworthy affair not just for the Oscar fashion and who took home the statues but also for the behavior of a certain guest. The behavior of Will Smith will go down in Oscar history; when he left his seat, took to the stage, and slapped Chris Rock. While everyone was shocked and horrified by Smith's behavior, there appear to be no measurable consequences. I will leave the interpretation of human behavior to one more qualified than myself. However, I have taken my place as a well-heeled critic of what was worn on the red carpet.

Certainly, Oscar fashion is a highlight for one like me. While others await the Super Bowl, I dream of the award season, with the pinnacle being the Academy Awards. I was glued to the screen for the Oscar preshow to make sure I saw the parade of gowns that will get my claps for a look well done and a slap for the fashion disasters.

Nicole Kidman won several claps for this gown; that was dyed by Armani to Kidman's specifications. The color is stunning on Kidman, and the chic peplumed silhouette is a standout.

Please take note I didn't mention the lady's hair. However, this voluminous gown designed by Y Project's Glenn Martens is an original couture gown in emerald green. This dress is Oscar fashion at its best, where else, could you wear this creation.

I had a second thought about this look, my first thought was this is a mixed-up ensemble. However, getting another vision of the outfit, I was struck by its youthful beauty and current vibe. This is a near-perfect look for a young superstar who has the body to pull it off.

Sofia Carson was an early winner in the Oscar fashion sweepstakes. Carson wore this large-scale black tulle gown that is reminiscent of the 1950s. Romantic and sophisticated this gown stole my heart.

Where do I begin with this dress wore by one of my fashion favorites. As an illustration of everything wrong, this is a good example. Starting with the dated ill-fitting silhouette and finishing with the bizarre bodice that looks like a tribute to Mickey Mouse ears. Wrong, wrong, wrong!

This dress is just awful. Poor Billie, is swallowed up in this overworked dress that is a blatant attempt at being different. A slap was heard around the world for this designer indulgent mess.

The Oscars are always a chance for us mere mortals to see designer and couture gowns worn by someone other than runway models. These fabulous red carpet looks are a collaboration between fashion designers, stylists, hair and make-up artists, and jewelers. I find it hard to give anyone negative feedback. However, these looks are created by the best in the business, when they screw it up, critics take note. I enjoy much more the chance to give accolades to work well done.
