AT VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK F/W22
Since its conception in 2001, Vancouver Fashion Week (VFW) has been dedicated to cultivating the success of both established designers and award-winning emerging designers with its global perspective and highly multicultural approach. Vancouver Fashion Week has also been a showcase for the graduating students of Vancouver's thriving fashion design programs. On Thursday, April 7th Vancouver Community College opened Vancouver Fashion Week.
Students' work holds the key to the future. What are the topics concerning the up and coming in the fashion world? The graduating class from Vancouver Community College put their issues forward. This class pushed the limits of their materials and their ideas in the application of their trade. Student designers often do not hold back in putting their issues on the runway and this group was no different. They put forward issues like sustainability, sexuality, gender, personal concerns, and their ideas on beauty and fashion.

DAMAL IKILER
Damal Ikler showed four pieces that reflected on her ideas of individualistic items of clothing inspired from everyday life. The black and white collection was made up of four radically different silhouettes exploring proportion and scale. Tulle fabric was used to create texture throughout the pieces. The standout opening piece brought the love of cherished clothing forth with the addition of a brightly colored patchwork scarf.
TAMIA MORGAN
"Tamia Morgan is an experimental mix media artist specializing in new forms related to fashion design"; excerpt from the VCC catalog of designers. Tamia showed three looks that used a black, white and red color palette and unconventional materials; rope, wire, and broken shards of mirror. The collection created an air of fantasy and mystery. The last look a white short nightgown-like dress with a wire sculpture attached had the appearance of one waking from a dream. These looks were conceptual and challenging, expanding our vision of clothing as art.
DANA NARVER
Dana Narver's bio says she is inspired by " the mischievous creatures that wander in her mind, encouraging expression without shame, and becoming friends with her shadows". The three-piece collection entitled MoonBoy is black and gray, textural, wearable, and beautiful. The garments detailed with capped ruffled sleeves, rows of buttons, and raw edges are contemporary while incorporating elements from fashion history.

MIYA BAH
Miya Bah is a designer who has a defined look that comes across on the runway with a strong point of view. Mysterious and bold Miya plays with texture and light through the juxtaposition of different fabrics. The collection has elements that can be layered and mixed to create looks unique to each wearer.
LANA ARGATOFF
Lana Argatoff is a multi-media artist and designer creating looks that emphasize femininity and flirtatiousness. Sheer fabrics gathered and fitted closely to the contours of the body emphasize the relationship between the clothes and the wearer. The clothes exude sexuality and boldness.
KIERA WEST
Kiera West is a luxury lingerie designer that focuses on inclusive sizing, quality construction, and sustainable practices. Using a unique color palette featuring chocolate brown and various lace and other details, West created garments that are glamourous and refined.
JERICHO LAYUGAN
Jericho Layugan's collection "Futures Rewritten" was inspired by the video game Final Fantasy XIV. The collection consisted of four pieces two in white and two in black . Using some classic silhouettes the designer incorporated satin and ruffles for his first look which set the tone for the collection of four dresses. A floor length black coat with artificial fur was a stand out piece.

SETAYESH AMANNEJAD
Setayesh Amannejad is a Vancouver-based bridal and eveningwear designer. Setayesh showed three unique and well-executed dresses. The first dress (a favorite) in caviar blue had an original and flattering silhouette and is perfect for a night out on the town or a black-tie party.
"The overall style is extremely feminine and classic and is intended for the bride who appreciates modern interpretations" excerpt from VCC catalog.
BHAGYA SHREE
This young designer expressed she took chances with her choice of color, fabric, and designs for her three-piece collection. Her chances paid off with a fresh look at evening wear. The closing dress in ruffled tiered red organza turned heads.
JARED GUERZON
Jared Guerzon took us on a journey to his magical world of a Cyberfest. Jared was inspired by stage wear and music. The exciting collection was a joyous moment on the runway. Guerzon presented whimsical and playful clothes that delighted the audience. His use of color and fabrics were dynamic and full of energy.
RONNIE TEO
Ronnie Teo is a Singaporean-Canadian and non-binary multi-media artist located in Vancouver. Teo has been working in fibre art for over a decade, their brand "Fieldtrip" specializes in sweaters, bralettes, and accessories. The collection of garments presented was unique and very creative. These whimsical yarn creations are like wearing a living story.
ELDRICH LUCERO
Eldrich Lucero presented his collection Red Light District, an exploration of the fetish community, drag and performance art. Using unconventional materials, and a variety of techniques, the artist created fantasy looks that challenged the conventions of fashion, beauty, and social acceptance. Controversy on the catwalk often leads to change in society.
