#WHYSOCEREALZ!

BRAND CONCEPT

Why are you so serious?!

I have to be good at everything,
I must not make mistakes,
so I am very serious and sensitive at times.

why so serious ?

You don't have to be good...
It's okay to make a mistake...

#whysocerealz!

Not serious,
cerealz.

So my motto has all kinds of effect on my brand. We started off in 2019 focusing on concepts that are fun and cerealz (meaning, not so serious): paint, super-hero, poker, fruits & veggies. But we have developed our brand identity so that we would now focus on very serious topics, but our expression would be very cerealz. So was our 21FW collection with the concept of “Inner Child” and our new 22FW collection, “when I want to do good, evil is right there with me”. This is a verse from the bible where Paul, the apostle, acknowledges his infirmities and weaknesses as human being. Most pieces from our collection will show both the “good” side and the “bad” side of human nature. Few pieces will only focus on either the “good” or the “bad”. Well, please enjoy!

A REVIEW

#WHYSOCEREAALZ! is a brand that wittily answers the question of 'Why So Serious?', the famous line of the Joker in the movie The Dark Knight. #WHYSOCEREAALZ! comforts people who are tired of being serious and obsessed with the perfect."

On Friday, April 8th Korean Brand WHYSOCEREAALZ lit up the runway at Vancouver Fashion Week. The age-old question between good and evil is the back story of this collection. With wit and charm, this brand brought a menswear collection whose designs and presentation delighted the VFW audience. The show opened with a video where the designer challenged his inner dilemma between good and evil. The conflict between good and evil presented with the good angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other. With good and evil as the theme of the collection, the subtlety lies in the idea that nothing is all good or all evil. The clothes show this dichotomy between good and bad by mirroring elements from both camps in the same garment.

The models decked out with angel wings and devil horns flited and frolicked down the runway. The presentation was light and humorous, with more serious underpinnings. The ready-to-wear collection was divided by a color palette that conveyed the good with beige-toned neutrals, dove grey, seafoam green, and baby blue. The move to the dark side was just that, presented with greys, black and white. Wit and charm were reflected in clothes that are youthful and exuberant. The "good" was not just echoed in color choice but was present in the cut and style of the garments. Bomber jackets, hoodies, and drawstring pants mirror the current trends driven by street style and sneaker culture. Many of these same elements are also on the darker side of the collection, illustrating nothing is completely good or evil.

The move to the darker side see's some added variety, including bold prints, checks, and knits. The designer introduces some youth-driven tailoring, with wool trousers that fit with the ease of track pants. A series of topcoats are well cut and have bold trims. A standout piece is an overcoat with a curved wave-like border on a plaid fabric and is paired with geek length ankle exposing trousers; this look is stylishly assembled. A structured pea coat has mirrored facial silhouettes as a collar, and slit cuffs detail the sleeves, feeling firmly of the moment. Devil and angel silhouettes appear on sweatshirts and jackets, a decal of a dog in devil ears, pushing the theme of the collection, with little subtlety.

IN CONCLUSION

#WHYSOCEREAALZ! is a label that adds a young, hopeful vibe to menswear. The menswear market is full of copycat brands that add little diversity to the market. However, #WHYSOCEREAALZ! is a collection where the clothing is fun, varied, and innovative. The motto “Let’s not be so serious, Let’s be cerealz!” was realized in this collection, which showed exuberance in the clothing and runway presentation. This collection is ideal for young, urban, creative men thirsty for fashion diversity.
