ARTEMISIA HWANG
The 2nd night of Vancouver Fashion Week welcomed back designer Artemisia Hwang. Hwang first showed her premiere student collection at VFW for S/S 2020. Hwang's bio states that she has a love of history, nature, architecture, and classical music.
ARTEMISIA HWANG A REVIEW
ARTEMISIA HWANG TM is the self-named label of Artemisia Hwang, a young Chinese Canadian designer who studied fashion in Italy. Artemisia has returned to Vancouver after studying and working in Italy for the past six years. I spoke to Artemisia the day after her collection showed at VFW S/S 2023. The excitement was still in the air after the successful launch of her new brand. I asked Artemisia about her brand and her return to Vancouver. " I am excited to return to Vancouver because my parents are here, but I have a foot in Canada and a foot in Italy. I source my fabrics in Italy and also have my exclusive line of handbags manufactured there."
The collection Artemisia Hwang sent down the runway was different from the more avant-garde clothing she had produced in her past collection. " I am working on a label that speaks to the young people I want to dress. I want to make the people who wear my clothes feel happy, confident, and excited to wear my brand.'
The looks that ARTEMISIA HWANG showed, told you exactly who the ARTEMISIA HWANG client is. This was a collection that had the vibe of spring throughout. A series of fun and flirty, silky, and shiny sundresses in brilliant colors opens the show. One in a creamy gold, another vibrant fuchsia, rounded out with purple, and maroon. The designer stays true to her youthful spring vibe by filling out the collection with summer white trousers and tops. The strength of this capsule collection, lies in making clothes that are pretty and uncomplicated.
