The 2nd night of Vancouver Fashion Week welcomed to the runway MAISON DE COUTURE SIGNÉ VÉRONIQUE LORTIE. VÉRONIQUE LORTIE brings her collection entitled "Renaissance" from her home city of Montreal.

Véronique Lortie provided me with a rich biography of her career as a wedding dress, evening wear, and historical and Medieval clothing designer. From childhood, Véronique has been interested in and surrounded by dressmaking, sewing, and designing. Learning her first skills from an aunt as a girl. Veronique persevered through some difficult times until starting her first wedding shop business. This self-taught designer has honed her skills, learning from her adorned team of seamstresses and her determination. Fast forward to today ,Véronique Lortie and her husband and business partner Charles Brousseau run two highly successful businesses in Quebec. One business DRACOLITE is the world's largest medieval store which Véronique designs two lines a year and MAISON DE COUTURE SIGNÉ VÉRONIQUE LORTIE, where Véronique designs her couture wedding, eveningwear, and ready-to-wear.

I spoke to Véronique Lortie and her husband, Charles Brousseau, the day following her first show at VFW. Véronique and Charles are a working team; the proof is their success. Charles, the savvy businessman, and Véronique, the designer, have perfected a formula that works for them. However, I am quickly told this venture into a more creative fashion line is Veronique's. Charles is here for love, support, guidance, and the occasional translation.

The collection entitled Renaissance is a rebirth, Veronique, explains after some difficult times during the pandemic, coming through the other side was a time for something new. Moreover, she now craved a rebirth of her creativity and desire to express her more artistic side, and Maison Couture Signé Véronique Lortie, the brand, is given a Renaissance. After 23 years of designing, Véronique Lortie is launching her Renaissance.

The collection Renaissance is a romantic frolic into a world where history and the 21st-century delight in holding hands. First, to grace the runway is a Rococo-inspired combination of a well-crafted corset and pink satin bloomers, complete with ruffles and bows. This sets the tone for what follows, a sexy fantasy of rich fabrics. satins, taffeta, and brocade. The designer, told me the bright and varied color palette was inspired by a floral print; highlighted in the closing gown of the collection.

Standout garments include a dark burgundy and black men's embossed brocade frock coat, perhaps cut with a 17th-century dandy in mind. A series of gowns combine classic and modern silhouettes and details. A turquoise corset with an open front panier-inspired skirt gives way to short shorts, a fun and risqué take on eveningwear. The closing look is a theatrical men's opera coat with a dazzling sequin appliqued train, which transfixed the audience and brought thunderous applause. This collection shows the eclectic variety of clothing this designer creates. A vision that is unique and daring.
