SHABOULI ECLECTIC ; ELEGANT WOMENSWEAR AT VFW S/S 2023

SHABOULI ECLECTIC

On Oct, 22, Vancouver Fashion Week welcomed another new comer to the runway designer Shabnam Vaezzadeh with her brand SHABOULI ECLECTIC.  Shabnam Vaezzaeh is an Iranian American designer who now is a new Canadian resident.

Inspired by her grandmother’s exquisite fashionable designs, Shabnam Vaezzadeh, MD, MPA, the designer and founder of Shabouli Eclectic, identified her passion for apparel design and construction at a young age in Iran.
While she pursued an MD degree and garnered business acumen as a corporate executive in the medical device industry in the US, Shabnam also indulged in formal education and experience in fashion design at the University of Incarnate Ward, followed by couture work for private clients.

SHABOULI ECLECTIC - A REVIEW

I met Shabnam Vaezzadeh before her show at VFW. The hectic environment of a pre-show is electric, and I can pick up on Shabnam's excitement. The excitement is partially due to the designer showing her collection to her family, "My mother and my Grandmother are my biggest supporters. My Mother even put the finishing touches on the garments in this collection".

The label is called SHABOULI ECLECTIC, and when asked about the name, Vaezzadeh expressed that the name is a reflection of her life. The eclectic nature of her interests inspires the brand. " I am from Iran I lived in the U.S.A  for twenty-five years. I have studied medicine and fashion, I have been involved in ballroom dancing, and have always had a love of fashion and fabric. My label is an amalgamation of my life and interests".

The collection is called “The Dawn Chorus”, a women's daywear collection themed after “Morgh-e Sahar,” a classical Iranian song. Morgh-e Sahar is a bird whose melody soothes aching hearts with the promise of a new day. The "Morgh-e-Sahar" is not played. The music that accompanies the collection is original, produced by the designer's extended family and friends. The graphics and video are also a collaboration of friends and family.

The garments that come down the runway are sophisticated and elegant, constructed from Iranian-sourced fabrics. A strength of these clothes lies in the use of print. A print with a black background and scrolling white and turquoise and the opposite with white background and swirling black and brown are used in skirts, and dresses. A bold geometric print inspired by Iranian architecture and ceramics are used in several standout pieces. The SHABOULI ECLECTIC collection's color palette is grounded in neutrals, with lively bright strokes of coral pink, turquoise, and green.

The designer knows her client, " I want to design an inclusive collection for a worldly woman who appreciates luxurious clothes that are feminine and enduring". The pieces shown have varying silhouettes, with attention paid to high-low hems, pencil skirts, and full-cut dresses with short kimono-style sleeves. Wide cummerbund-like waists are decorated with satin flowers, and necks are adorned with feather chockers. All these details emphasize the feminine styling

Shabnam Vaezzadeh said to me "I feel privileged to represent the art and dedication of Iranian women. I want my fashion to be a promise of hope ". The light, effortless outfits work across everyday occasions, as well as special ones. The attitude conveyed fits the designer's intention, and the collection is relaxed, joyful, hopeful, and quietly confident.
