Hazi Haus at Vancouver Fashion Week. Hazi Haus is a new brand showing its first collection at VFW F/W 24. The brand is the creation of designer Lexi Chang, who has worked for the past few years with designer Alex S. Yu. Chang, a Taiwanese-born Canadian with fashion in her DNA. The following is from Chang's biography, provided to Vancouver Fashion Week.

Immersed in a world of textiles and garments from a young age, Chang’s love for fashion was fostered by her father, a seasoned professional, in the Taiwan textile industry since the early 80s. Being exposed to the mesmerizing artistry, and craftsmanship of raw materials to wearable art became an integral portion of her childhood. Today, Chang channels this early influence in her own designs, paying homage to her roots, and blending her passion for textiles with her unique experience and vision for sustainable and functional fashion. Bold, and visually striking. Dedicated to innovative design through thoughtful experimentation. Chang is enamored with creating garments from shapes and forms in the natural world, and challenging traditional conventions. Taiwanese born, Canadian raised, Chang is eager to design, create and share her narrative.

The first night of VFW F/W24 was the first runway show for Lexi Chang of Hazi Haus. Firsts can be tricky things; however, there was no need to worry; the Hazi Haus collection was a success. Entitled "Inner Child Ambrosia," this collection reflects on childhood and youth, a coming-of-age story in fabric. "Hazi Haus is the cumulation of all the emotions and experiences that fulfill me," says Chang. Finding a voice to express her emotions and to tell her stories is born out of a love of fashion. Chang tells a story with her collection of childhood dreams coming to life through the eyes of an adult. Lexi Chang presents an ode to her younger self.
The collection that came down the runway was a youth quake and gave the nod to sassy, luxurious streetwear. The feminine clothes are detailed and complex. The twelve ready-to-wear garments are made up of many elements; cropped tops, leggings, miniskirts and body-conscious silhouettes, that play with shape and proportion. A palette of silvery greys, black and white finds relief with a flash of rich chocolate and light blue. Shiny satin is paired with rough knits. Texture is a key element in fashion and Chang understands how it works.

The first look is a full-length form-fitting silver dress with cutouts, setting the tone for a collection that has a simmering sensuality. A standout look features a large-scale plaid skirt with a structural front and cropped classic white shirt. The more you looked, the more you saw the components of these clothes: pleats, snaps, and a silver satin corset with hanging textured strings, all adding to the complete picture of a collection heavy in details. Elements like knit gloves, chunky leg warmers, and floppy bunny-eared hoods added texture and whimsy. One of the most vital points of this collection was its use of fabrics and their juxtaposition: shiny and matt, rough and smooth, soft and stiff. These are clothes with attitude; they are youthful and playful and are for someone a little more adventurous. Hazi Haus is a brand that is about self-expression. What is so exciting about this collection is that it's sophistication and thoughtfulness come from a young designer presenting their first collection. I can't wait to see what Lexi Chang brings us next.
