ADVICE ON HOW TO GET THE LOOKS YOU LOVE

Emily in Paris

Emily in Paris is a breath of fresh air. I watched it at the perfect time, in the center of the current political horror show of the last weeks. I needed Emily in Paris. Light, sweet and fluffy like a marshmallow Emily in Paris is a pure delight. No deep thought is required. However, the ability to suspend reality is needed. The show follows a twenty-something social media ad exec who fate deals the card of moving from Chicago to Paris. Emily's adventures work and personal take her around the city of lights like a travelogue. It is full of French stereotypes, and some cringe-worthy moments. However, Emily in Paris is the fashion equivalent of The Tour de France.

Emily in Paris is the latest Netflix series from Darren Star, the Sex in the City creator. Therefore, fashion plays one of the central roles. Star knowing where his success lies with Sex in the City, brought Patricia Field on board to do the wardrobe. Field works with French costume designer Marilyn Fitoussi, the show has a wardrobe where most of the clothes come from current designers.

THE CLOTHES

While I may not agree with all of Emily's fashion choices, I love the overall vibe. There are many pieces here that are young, vibrant, and fun. In essence, Emily is a sort of every girl. In fact, as a fellow costume designer, I understand Patricia Field's choices because Emily is that girl who tries too hard. As the late great Coco Chanel said, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off". In the case of Emily, that could be three or four things. All this said, there are a lot more good things to say about the wardrobe of Emily In Paris than bad. Here are my favorite looks and how to achieve them.

In the scene pictured, Emily meets the Paris influencer set, her style shines. I am not a fan of the countless bucket hats that earn the character the nickname "Emily Bucket Hat Cooper ". However, Emily is wearing this fabulous Chanel bright green jacket. Furthermore, on her arm is this green bucket bag that just sings. While the Chanel jacket will set you back, I've found some great alternatives.

As shown above, Emily is in a Veronica Beard gingham short-suit. I am a fan of black and white in fashion. I especially find bold prints in black and white, forceful and attention-grabbing. This look is a standout. However, I would lose the cliché red beret. Moreover, again we see Emily carrying yet another Chanel bag. Now is when that suspension of reality comes in useful. Because there is no way a junior ad exec could afford a closet full of Chanel bags.

Those of you who frequent this page know how I sing the praises of Ganni. Ganni is a brand that caters to The Emily in Paris demographic, young women who love style. Therefore, it is no shock that this yellow two-piece skirt and top has sold out. However, Ganni has some yellow and black looks that will give you the same effect.

Free and easy is the vibe. In this look, Emily has accomplished the European easy-chic feel that the other French characters have. Furthermore, the jeans and crop top look is one where Emily's not overachieving.

Henceforth let's say not all florals are created equal. Here the Off White floral coat is a winner. I love a bold floral on a dark background. Emily wears this coat showing her playful, hopeful side, while Off White show's its edginess. Since the Off White coat is no longer available, I've found some exciting alternatives.

In the beginning, there was Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face, and all the rest is imitation. While Emily loves her colorful clothing when she needs she can wear a little black dress with the best of them. In the scene where Emily attends the ballet, she is stunning in a frock by Christian Siriano. One mainstay of any women's wardrobe is the little black dress, here are some choices to help you achieve this classic look.

 IN CONCLUSION

Emily In Paris is renewed for two more seasons. Therefore, we may see the evolution of Emily's style. A fictional character in a television series similar to a real person, changes with time. Will these changes see Emily adopt a more sophisticated French-style, or will she remain the All-American girl? The fun frolics of Emily in Paris are great escapist television, truly a guilty pleasure for those of us who usually pursue less frivolous pursuits. I look forward to Emily's future adventures and all the fabulous fashion.
